Friends for Mental Health is a non-profit community organization that provides families and friends with the support, information and education they need to help them cope with a loved one's mental illness.

SERVICES - CAP SCHIZOPHRENIA

This 10 week psychoeducational program on schizophrenia is specially adapted for families and responds to their current needs. This program allows for families to develop their adaptive skills so they can cope with the chronicity of the disease and possible crises caused by the acute phases of illness.

Part 1: Better understand in order to better respond and prevent
. Explanation of the disease, symptoms and evolution
. The problems associated with: the use and abuse of substances
. The problems associated with: depression, anxiety and suicide
. The quality of life and social inclusion of people with schizophrenia

Phase 2: Being better equipped to better support
. Communication: Adapting to the situation and the person
. Taking care of oneself in order to take care of others
. The family: upheavals, role and support
. Preventing burnout
. Becoming partners: to know and work with community resources
     
Providing support to families to cope with a loved one's mental illness serving primarily the West Island of Montreal: Baie-d'Urfé, Beaconsfield,
Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Dorval, Île-Bizard, Kirkland, Pierrefonds, Pointe-Claire, Roxboro, Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, Ste-Geneviève and Senneville.
