UPS-J (URGENCE PSYCHOSOCIALE-JUSTICE)
Urgence Psychosociale-Justice (UPS-J)
The UPS-Justice responds to cases involving adults with a mental health problem who have performed or are about to perform a criminal act.
UPS-J mandate:
Avoid the incarceration of individuals with severe and persistent mental health problems, this may include severe personality disorders;
Avoid or reduce preventative incarceration;
Promote the integration of the person, to the appropriate resources, according to their needs.
Clientele profile: mental health justice
Adults presenting severe and persistent mental health problems, this can include severe personality disorders;
Person that is agitated, disoriented with regards to time and space, threatening, tumultuous, dangerous, may be intoxicated and who is behaving or is on the verge of behaving in a criminal manner in their environment
Intervention Settings:
The UPS-J interventions consists of two distinct areas that are closely related; the community intervention and the court intervention.
Providing support to families to cope with a loved one's mental illness serving primarily the West Island of Montreal: Baie-d'Urfé, Beaconsfield,
Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Dorval, Île-Bizard, Kirkland, Pierrefonds, Pointe-Claire, Roxboro, Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, Ste-Geneviève and Senneville.
